Studio Cosmique podcasts, coproduced and broadcast by Switch (on Paper), are intended to form a collection attesting to the anthropological dimension of the Space adventure and its place in reflections on the future of humanity. This further contributes to the production of the journal’s interviews, columns and investigations to explore fruitful relations between Art and Society.

The Author

The Author : Pierre Meunier

Biography

Pierre Meunier is a French playwright and director, an atypical personality from the theater and circus world. In March and April 2010, he flew aboard the Airbus Zero-G, as part of the Writers in zero gravity residence. After a first collaboration in 2008 with the Observatoire de l’Espace, Pierre Meunier is the third artist to participate in this residency, which gave him the opportunity to report on his experience and the artistic research he conducted aboard the aircraft. Pierre Meunier has been working for a long time on the struggle between Léopold Fliegestein, the character he plays on stage, and his declared enemy, gravity.

L’Observatoire de l’Espace

The Space adventure was one of the vectors of major 20th-century cultural transformations and the Space dream, a powerful driver for fuelling Man’s desire for change. Since its foundation in 2000, the CNES (Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales, the French space agency) cultural laboratory Observatoire de l’Espace is where new relations between Space and Culture are developed.

Working with museums, art schools, archives and, now, Switch (on Paper), Observatoire de l’Espace launches cultural projects on the boundary between the Arts and Sciences, offering the public an opportunity to discover them through several events open to the public.

Studio Cosmique #3 Why fight against gravity?

Chronicle • Podcast by Pierre Meunier
Groupe de techniciens de la base spatiale d'Hammaguir Colomb-Béchar avril 1966 LRBA

Beyond the entertaining aspect of weightless acrobatics, the desire to free oneself from the gravitational straitjacket suddenly takes on political overtones. Does refusing to remain nailed to the ground become a radical gesture of emancipation? Pierre Meunier is a playwright, actor and director with a hypersensitivity to gravity, also known as acute gravitationitis, striving to cure the persistent crushing sensation that has inhabited him since birth through theater, cinema and writing. He contributed to issues 4, 7, and 18 of Espace(s), the journal of the Observatoire de l’Espace.
